  6. Asyraf,
When the electrical nerve impulse reaches the synaptic knob, it stimulate the synaptic vesicle to secrete neurotransmitters into the synaptic cleft. The transmission of information across a synaptic cleft involves conversion of electrical signal into a chemical signal in the form of neurotransmitters, and then reconversion of the chemical signal into an electrical signal once again at the postsynaptic membrane. The transmission of nerve impulses across the synaptic cleft is an active transport requiring energy. Thus, the mitochondria are needed.
